Somatic Therapy - Mya Thieme
Invite your body into the conversation.
A body and nervous system-based approach to therapy
Somatic Therapy is an approach that works with the body and nervous system as central parts of how we process experience.
Many of the challenges people face are not only held in the mind, but show up in the body through ongoing patterns such as tension, anxiety, shutdown, or overwhelm. Unlike traditional talk therapy, this approach includes these physical responses directly in the process.
I work with an integrated approach, specialising in:
✤ Trauma
✤ Stress
✤ Anxiety
✤ Depression
✤ Addiction
During sessions, we combine verbal exploration with awareness of sensation, breath, and subtle physical responses. This allows us to work with patterns that are often not accessible through thinking or talking alone.
Rather than focusing only on understanding the past, the work supports the nervous system in processing what has been held over time, which can lead to more stability, regulation, and clarity.
This approach is suitable for anyone who wants to better understand their own system and work with it in a more direct and effective way.
Somatic Therapy might be the next step for you if…
✤ You feel disconnected from your body and want to build a stronger mind-body connection.
✤ You experience unresolved emotions and want to release them in a safe, supportive environment.
✤ You're dealing with chronic stress, anxiety, or trauma and seek a holistic approach to therapy.
✤ Traditional talk therapy hasn't provided the results you were hoping for.
✤ You struggle with chronic illness or persistent physical symptoms and don’t know why.
✤ You believe in the importance of both body and mind in achieving overall well-being.
✤ You find yourself stuck in the same patterns and unable to move forward.
✤ You feel dissociated from your body and want to reconnect: you are ready to listen to your body.
✤ You desire a deeper awareness of your body, thoughts, abilities, and goals.
✤ You seek to live authentically and align your life with your personal philosophy.
✤ You want to develop a closer relationship with yourself and embrace your unique talents.
Somatic Therapy Among the Herd
These sessions combine body-based therapeutic work with an environment that is naturally organised through awareness, movement, and social regulation.
The horses at Ibiza Horse Valley have been rescued from situations of abuse and neglect and now live in a stable herd structure. Over time, they have reorganised from states of stress and survival into more regulated patterns of behaviour. This is not something that is trained, but something that emerges through consistent access to space, movement, and social connection.
Within the herd, horses are continuously responding to their environment and to each other. This creates a setting where regulation is maintained through the group rather than controlled externally.
When people enter this space, their nervous system begins to respond to these conditions. Without needing to analyse or explain, many experience shifts in tension, breath, and overall state simply through being present.
The herd has full freedom to choose whether to engage during a session. There is no expectation or direction placed on them. Any interaction that occurs is based on proximity, attention, and the natural responses of the horse, not on trained behaviour.
This creates a dynamic that is grounded, nonverbal, and responsive in real time.
Rather than guiding the process, the horses remain part of the environment, allowing the work to stay centred on the person and their own nervous system.
Somatic Therapy for children & teenagers
Helping young people feel safe in their bodies again
Today’s children and teenagers are navigating high levels of pressure, stimulation, and emotional demand. For many, this shows up not only in their thoughts, but in their bodies through anxiety, tension, overwhelm, or shutdown.
When the nervous system becomes overloaded, it can be difficult for a child to regulate, focus, or express what they are feeling.
Instead of relying only on talking, Somatic Therapy works directly with the body and nervous system. Through awareness of breath, sensation, and simple physical cues, children begin to recognise what is happening inside them and learn how to respond to it.
This is especially helpful for children who struggle to put their feelings into words or who tend to withdraw, shut down, or become overwhelmed.
As the body begins to feel safer, the nervous system can settle. This often leads to improved emotional regulation, more stability, and a greater sense of confidence in navigating everyday situations.
Some sessions take place in the presence of our rescued herd of horses. Horses are highly responsive to their environment and to each other, which creates a calm and regulating setting. Children often respond naturally to this, without needing to explain or analyse what they feel.
Whether a child is experiencing anxiety, withdrawal, overstimulation, or ongoing stress, this approach offers practical, body-based tools that support long-term regulation and emotional development.
