Somatic Therapy: Healing Through Body Awareness
What is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic Therapy is a body-based approach to healing that helps individuals process trauma, stress, and emotional challenges by tuning into physical sensations. Unlike traditional talk therapy, Somatic Therapy focuses on how past experiences are stored in the body and uses movement, breathwork, and awareness exercises to release tension and restore balance.
Benefits of Somatic Therapy
Trauma Recovery: Helps process and release stored trauma without reliving it.
Nervous System Regulation: Supports a shift from survival mode to a state of safety and ease.
Increased Body Awareness: Encourages connection with physical sensations and emotional cues.
Reduced Anxiety & Stress: Uses grounding techniques to calm the nervous system.
How It Works
A Somatic Therapy session focuses on integrating the mind and body to support your healing process. It begins with a check-in to discuss your current state and set the intention for the session, ensuring we are aligned on your goals.
Through talk therapy, breathwork, sensation awareness, grounding exercises, bodywork, and touch (for in-person sessions), we engage both physical and mental aspects of your experience. Throughout the session, we stay aware of emotions, sensations, and the body, incorporating elements from the past, present, and future.
The session concludes with a silent integration period, allowing your body to absorb and process the experience.
Somatic Therapy includes techniques such as:
Body Scanning: Identifying areas of tension or numbness.
Breathwork: Using the breath to regulate the nervous system.
Movement Therapy: Engaging in gentle exercises to process emotions.
